Eight Spots

Personalised café, restaurant & bar guides, for the world’s best cities. Recommendations based on your tastes.
Eight Spots helps travellers save time and avoid disappointing dining and drinking experiences when visiting new cities, by generating personalised city dining guides, comprising of café, restaurant and bar recommendations that are tailored to each user’s particular tastes. At launch, Eight Spots provides personalised coverage of Berlin, London, New York, Paris, Perth and Sydney, with plans to expand to include more than 90 other international cities. When travellers arrive in a new or unfamiliar city, it can be time consuming and difficult to find new cafés, restaurants and bars that they like. For example, a search for restaurants in Paris on TripAdvisor™ yields more than 9 000 results that are ranked by the average rating of all users, irrespective of who you are and what you like, and which typically favour locations that are well-known tourist destinations and/or very expensive. In contrast, Eight Spots analyses a user’s tastes to create a simple, focussed city dining guide comprising of five results, which are ranked only on the recommendation of other travellers who share their preferences. The guide includes one recommendation each for breakfast, coffee/tea, lunch, dinner and drinks in that city. New users can get started by completing Eight Spots’ unique taste survey and by identifying a couple of their go to spots in one or more cities that they already know. For example, if a user loves Golden Brown in Tokyo, Workshop Coffee in London or Jimmy Liks in Sydney, Eight Spots might recommend that they try Al Taglio in Paris, Godshot in Berlin or the Clinton Street Baking Co. in New York. In simplifying and personalising recommendations, Eight Spots saves travellers time and helps them zero in on the local spots that they’re going to love.
