As an independent traveller I prefer not to use travel agencies or follow set itineraries. I like exploring new places my own way.

Last year, planning my trip to India I started researching the internet to find interesting places, accommodation, etc. I was overloaded with huge amounts of information, badly organised and got lost within so many non-descript sources. I ended up resorting to the good old paper travel guide.

But the best advice I got was actually on the road, meeting other travellers, checking their photos, scribbling tips on napkins and the back of my hand.

Pierre I have to agree that the best advice is gained from other travelers or locals and therefore I also use trivago, which combines a community of travelers with a hotel metasearch. This way one finds reviews, travel guides, photos and price comparisons all in one location. Thu 13 May '10  ·  Flag
