An easy-to-use app to filter out the ads, data and tracking mechanisms from your mobile

Peace of Mind - Ad and Content Blocker Relaxed browsing without ads...
Review posted Sun 27 Dec '15

While I can totally see the need for developers to have ads, data and tracking mechanisms built into their websites, it doesn't make it any less a pain in the ass for the viewer. Not only could there be a possible breach of security involved but unwanted ads and data uses up precious bandwidth and slows down your speed of service. It's even worse when viewing on your mobile because the screen is smaller and bandwidth is even more limited. The aptly named Peace of Mind is a privacy and security app for iOS that is an easy way to ... Read more

A new kind of news in 20 second sound bites

Headliner App Streaming video news
Review posted Sat 26 Dec '15

How many times do you hear it these days? The news is too serious. It's depressing. Whether it be terrorist bombs, street shootings or violent Black Friday fights, it almost makes you wanna turn off the news and watch "Two and a Half Men." Well, maybe I'm stretching it a little there but i'm sure you know exactly what I mean. In actual fact, more and more people are turning to their mobiles to catch up on the news rather than the traditional TV nightly versions. However, if the truth were known, even mobile news leaves a little to be ... Read more

There was a time when folks used to always have a small notebook or a diary tucked away in their pocket wherever they went. It was vital to keep a note of all those important things like phone numbers and addresses and to write stuff down that you didn't want to forget. At home they might keep a scrapbook to paste in photos and the like or a travel log if they'd been on vacation. I wonder if anyone does that stuff anymore - especially when you can keep all that stuff and more on an app for your iPhone ... Read more

You just have to look around town to see that personal fitness has become one of the boom industries of the 21st Century. Every time you turn your head there seems to be yet another fitness centre opening up where all the old DVD stores used to be. It's a sign of the times. What’s more, every second person you meet seems to be a personal trainer. Mind you, if you wanna sign up with one, you'll find them pretty expensive. There is however, a much cheaper way to get all the benefits that a personal trainer offers without having ... Read more

Everyone loves cute and cuddly bears, don't they? Especially kids. Kids also like playing online games with cute, cuddly bears in them. That's rather convenient in this case because here we have an online game with bears in it. Perfect! The unusually named Treehoven Candy For Bears is one of those fun mining games that is especially great for kids to play on their tablets. Review posted Fri 11 Dec '15

Despite the fact that magazines sell a fraction of the amount that they used to during their heyday, there's one mag category that still seems to be holding its own. The celebrity magazines like People, OK, Entertainment Weekly, Star and Who are the mags that are saving the local newspaper shops from going to the dogs. And what's the first page that people turn to when they buy a new edition? The celebrity photos, of course! Kim and Kanye, Taylor Swift, Brad and Angelina, Nicki Minaj, The Bieb, Stephen Curry and LeBron, Coldplay on stage and thousands of others. Well, ... Read more

Given the high price of rental residences in major cities it's hardly surprising that there are more and more share houses these days with several people splitting the cost of the rent and household expenses. In many cases, the first time they meet each other is when they move in - especially when we are talking about student accommodation. It's all good fun at first. Parties every night and new friends to get to know. But then comes the crunch when the place starts to get dirty and one person ends up doing most of the cleaning and another gets ... Read more

Religion in general gets a pretty bad rap these days, doesn't it? Some say that it's on the decline. While a recent Gallop survey suggests that 40% of Americans go to church on the weekends, figures from the church itself put that figure at closer to 20%. That doesn't make it any less relevant to the way of life of millions of people around the world, though. I think it was comedian Steve Martin who said in the film "Grand Canyon" that "the answer to all life's problems are in the movies." Well, to many, the answer to all of ... Read more

If i asked you which was the more popular entertainment for American families between major league sporting events, theme parks and museums, my guess is that you wouldn't pick museums. They have long been considered to be a bit old hat and stodgy and full of nothing but ancient relics. Surely no kid would want to see that, would they? Well, according to a 2011 study, there are over 850 million visits to museums each year. That's just about the same amount as the other two put together. Museums are actually very popular, it seems. The development of email over the years hasn't really kept up with the rest of the messaging industry. Whereas most online communication technology is geared towards a mobile world, email tends to leave many of us still sitting behind our PC in order to perform some essential management services. Even then, many of the actions we take are just not necessary. We seem to spend an awful lot of time creating folders and diligently filtering messages into them even though we rarely ever need to refer back to them. Now there's a new conditional forwarding email filter that gives greater ... Read more
