One of the accusations often leveled at Apple over the years is that anything over the basic model often costs an arm and a leg. The cost of an essential item like Office or Photoshop was so expensive that many would rather hunt up a dodgy copy rather than forking out hundreds of dollars to Apple for the privilege of using the original. Things have changed dramatically in recent times however - seemingly due to the immense popularity of iPhone and iPad devices. Nowadays, there are a heap of different Office styled apps available for iOS as well as its ... Read more

The debate between kindle readers and physical paper book readers has raged for a few years now and avid readers seem to have divided into one or the other. Ebook readers love the ease and simplicity of reading a book on their kindle without having shelf loads of books cluttering up their homes while paper book readers love the pure pleasure of holding a book in their hands rather than a piece of plastic. Personally, I think the kindle has a fair way to go to fulfill its obvious potential. However, there is another way of 'reading' books that seems ... Read more

Review posted Wed 5 Nov '14

Just in case you aren't aware, Podio is a cloud-based collaboration service that's been around since 2009. It supplies a very flexible web-based platform for organizing team communication and business processes as well as data and content in project management workspaces. What makes it different to others is that you can add specific business apps to the basic model depending on your project needs. As you may have guessed, GlobiFlow is one of these add-on apps and one that has the ability to transform Podio into a much more sophisticated and dynamic business management system. The app lets you automate ... Read more

The chase to harness big data has become one of the next great aspirations both in the public and private sectors. But what’s more amazing than the fact that the data we’ve created online over the past two years eclipses the prior record of human civilization, is that now we have methods to capture, analyze and use it, according to Weatherhead University Professor Gary King in an article published by Harvard Magazine. The way business works is changing rather rapidly in the 21st Century. Rather than everything being purely centered around an office environment, more and more businesses are working with reps in the field - whether it be in the local community, nationally or worldwide. It used to be complicated to keep in touch and collaborate with mobile workers who would report in anyway they could but mostly via expensive phone calls, emails or by fax. I'm sure you remember those horrible fax machines. Some of you are probably still using them now. Thankfully, those days seem numbered when apps like ... Read more

Mobile Web apps have come a long way to challenge their Native app counterparts and a debate has formed as to which method is best. Both offer users and developers advantages and hindrances in platform independence, performance, user discoverability, maintenance and much more. One thing is for certain, organizations developing their mobile content strategy should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both application technologies. Read more

A free task organizer that you can use from morning to night

Review posted Sat 9 Aug '14

The trouble with many 'to-do' applications nowadays is that they are geared either towards business use or designed purely for personal stuff. There's not that much around that covers all of your day-to-day activities. The other problem is that they are often packed with way too many features that you'll never use and are altogether too complicated. Taskify.us is a free, simple and effective organizer that lets you jot down all your daily events - from the moment you jump out of bed to the time you get back under the covers - and tick off your tasks when they ... I'm sure most of us have been in a position where we have had to send an online document or a photo to someone in a hurry. It could be a multi-page contract, a map or an essay. It wouldn't be easy but, i guess you could take a photo of it with your phone camera but its a bit of a pain and not everyone has a smartphone. God help you if you have to convert it into a PDF or something. What you really need is a scanner that you could carry around with you. Sendable is a ... Read more

If you have to rely on hand written notes or your memory to keep track of your business dealings and phone calls in the 21st Century you really aren't fulfilling the potential of your capabilities. It's not so bad if you are dealing with the odd phone call but, if you are receiving a fair number of enquiries, there is no way you will be able to keep track of everything that is said or done. Callorb is a simple but effective productivity application for Android that let's you note and make notes on all your phone calls as soon ... Read more

A social network for creatives with more than fifty shades of grey

MinaGrey Creative Gets Smart, Smart...
Review posted Sun 1 Jun '14

Don't panic, MinaGrey is not the follow up to Fifty Shades of Grey! It's far more worthy to me than that poorly written piece of fluff. Let me just say from the outset here. This free, art and writing application is unlike any other app that we've seen before here at the FeedMyApp offices. I guess the best way to describe it is would be as a non-commercial artistic and creative community where musicians, artists, writers and scientists can freely share ideas, concepts and their artistic skills with the rest of the world. It's a social network - run by ... Read more
