Enthuse.me Showcase your expertise
Review posted Mon 18 Feb '13  ·  14 comments

It's not easy to get across the passion that you have for a subject by a form of resume. It's not particularly easy, if it comes to that, to get that enthusiasm over to the people by creating a Facebook page or using any of the other social networking outlets. Maybe you have spread yourself right across all your networks. Your cool photos could be on Instagram, you might have some interesting articles and stories on your blog and then there is the stuff on your Facebook page. Enthuse.me is a new networking and promotion application where you can create ... Read more

Review posted Wed 6 Feb '13

Your local Main Street retailer isn't going to like hearing this but there are an awful lot of items that can be bought at much cheaper prices in other countries rather than at your local shopping complex. And while it may not be particularly good for the local economy, if you spent a bit of time shopping around online you can probably find your item at a better price in a store in a different country. The problem is, though...how do you get hold of your item after you've found it? PriceItBuy takes your online shopping social by connecting you ... Read more

Cutetown The most beautiful map
Review posted Thu 31 Jan '13  ·  3 comments

Fancy yourself as the next Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry? Cutetown won't quite give you the same freedom of expression as some of the buildings created by either of those great two architects but it does provide a hell of a lot of fun. The app is a beautiful 3D map editor that allows you to transform GPS maps into highly detailed three-dimensional maps of real places on iPad. Its a bit like using a digital version of Lego, I guess. At the moment, as the app is in its early stages, there are only a few places to ... Read more

Review posted Sun 20 Jan '13  ·  2 comments

The way that we meet potential dating partners has really changed over the last ten years. While many prefer to meet new people out on the streets or in bars and clubs there is a huge market out there that has no interest in meeting up in a late night alcohol fuelled environment. Many prefer to do their initial interactions over the net and organizations like eHarmony given the credibility to the online dating phenomenon and have had a huge effect on our social habits. Haloo is a new free dating application for iOS that adds a huge dollop of ... Read more

The last third of Cameron Crowe's much maligned minor classic movie "Elizabethtown" features a lengthy road trip for Orlando Bloom's character Drew. It's a fabulous and classic road trip that he undertakes and one that has inspired many to take that same trip. The travel story is mapped out beautifully by his new friend Claire and takes him from from Louisville Kentucky down to New Orleans via all sorts of fascinating places on the way. Gazettr is a new travel application that draws on the same passion and enthusiasm that Claire's road trip gave to Drew. It's a place to ... Read more

Social communication for your mobile

Review posted Tue 15 Jan '13  ·  4 comments

When it comes right down to it, SharpaFede Communicator is a bit like having a slimmed down social network that's designed specifically for your mobile device. When I say that it's a slimmed down version please don't get me wrong. This java-mobile communication platform uses your regular contacts as well as new ones you make to connect and communicate in broader, more social and more intuitive terms on your mobile phone. The app lets you get social with an intuitive and classy-looking user interface that integrates seemlessly with the app's communicative features like video, voice, chat and instant messaging.   ... Review posted Mon 7 Jan '13  ·  3 comments

You have to laugh, don't you? If someone suggested to you that the basis of which bar or club you would be going to tonight would be based on the attractiveness of its guests, you might think you were back in the disco era of Studio 54. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's important to be seen with the cool and handsome types. I guess single girls want to go where single good looking guys are and single guys are always going to go to places where cool and pretty girls hang out. Assuming that's what you are looking for ... It's often said that critics are simply failed performers who got out of the bed the wrong way before they saw the film, played the game or visited the restaurant but that's not really fair. There are some great reviewers around these days with a pure passion for the things they love - but they are getting few and far between. Personally, I have a rule that I never review anything that I don't like, whether it is an app, a movie or a piece of music. But, with everybody seemingly having an opinion about everything these days, it seems ... Read more

Free video chat and the future of communication

Back before Facebook hit its tipping point and took over the world it used to be so much fun to get on MSN or Yahoo and chat with your friends all around the world. You could video chat and have conference calls where others could join in and, despite it's limitations, it served its purpose exceptionally well. But when Facebook added chat to its arsenal of goodies it signaled the slow demise of that format and I read recently that Microsoft are shutting down MSN in favor of a revamped Skype setup in 2013. Facebook really hasn't developed the chat ... Read more
