Record and interpret your dreams as you type

Review posted Sun 27 Apr '14

It's kinda rare for me to remember my dreams at night past that first ten minutes when I wake up in the morning. It seems so vivid at first but then it just seems to disappear as your mind grasps for more... like smoke in a breeze. I do remember a particular one recently where I was booking into an elevated hotel in the mountains of Nepal with a friend and my two cats. The fact that the friend was the girlfriend of a good friend of mine just made it more complicated - but, that's another story. They say ... Read more

One of the essential travel apps for travel in Asia

Tripper The World's Local Assistant
Review posted Wed 26 Feb '14  ·  1 comment

Wouldn't it be great if you could take your very own interpreter with you when you visit a country where you don't speak or understand the language? You could hire one with some local knowledge when you get to your destination but that can be quite pricey and there's no guarantee that your guide will have all the answers you need. What's more, you are going to need them to hang around with you wherever you go. The sensible alternative may be to turn to an iOS and Android travel application like this one. Tripper, or 'The World's Local Assistant' ... Read more

The Internet has certainly changed the way we live but who would have thought that it would change the way we speak, too? Im sure that, by now, everyone knows full well that LOL means Laugh Out Loud but it gets a bit challenging when you are presented with SEO's and FML...and we haven't even thought about LMFAO - maybe we shouldn't go there just yet. The fact is, the Internet exists on acronyms, abbreviations and slang and, if you want to know your way around, there needs to be an easy place to go if you want to find ... Read more

Review posted Thu 14 Nov '13  ·  196 comments

Let's get this straight from the start. I'm big on good grammar. Anything that can be done to improve the writing capabilities of our students has got to be a good thing. If you are a reader, you will know that there is a big difference between the quality of writing of people like Bill Bryson, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling and John Grisham compared with lesser writing mortals like James Patterson and E.L. James. While we are not suggesting that a grammar checker will propel your prose to those heady heights, Grammar Checker Academic HD is an iOS education and ... Read more

SDL has been one of the leaders in translation for the last twenty years and its this reputable team are now introducing a language translation application known as SDL BeGlobal.  The app uses both machine and human translation to give the most reliable translation service to cover a massive amount of languages and dialects. While there are plenty of other translation apps there aren't many where you can choose between simple translations of regular languages and actual human translation of the least well known. BeGlobal is a cost effective way of translating everything from apps to tweets and everything in ... Read more

Review posted Fri 5 Jul '13  ·  15 comments

They say that the only way you can really master another language is by conversing with native speakers in a one-on-one situation. This, however, can be an expensive and time consuming business. However, given that so many of us have webcams connected to our computers these days, it seems like a sensible idea to hone your language skills up online. Fluently takes advantage of this by offering 30 minute language learning sessions - with native speakers with a shared interest, no less - at probably the cheapest rates that you will find.   Fluentify connects language learners with real native ... I guess most of us still use Google Translate when it comes to getting accurate translations of foreign language text. It's not too difficult to do except that it takes a few click and pastes and then there's the question of how much text you can translate at any one time, of course. So when an app like this one for iOS comes along, it does make the regular translator sit up and take notice. Translation Cheki takes the cut and paste hassle out of translation by having the app running constantly in the background so all your need to ... Read more

Nurturize Nurture your potential
Review posted Wed 3 Apr '13  ·  280 comments

It seems like a parent's life takes a bit of a  back seat as soon as a child comes along and takes up the majority of their time. Trying to further yourself with classes and courses can turn into a bit of a nightmare. Half the problem isn't necessarily with the harried parent though.  Quite often the problem lies with poor website information and badly organized companies who fail to deliver the information that you need. Nurturize is a new search engine application designed for parents that makes it easier to search and find the classes and courses they need ... Read more

Sharpen up your Mandarin the Farber way

Review posted Thu 31 Jan '13  ·  34 comments

Let's face it, it's pretty hard to go past a language app that takes its name from a classic sandwich, so BaconLanguageTomato had to be investigated further.it turns out that what could have been mistaken for something served up for breakfast or lunch at O'Doule's in San Francisco, turns out to be a very smart and neat looking app that asks if you are hungry to speak the Mandarin Chinese language. It's a virtual Mandarin dictionary with an unusual slant that puts into practice a technique made famous by former US radio host Barry Farber.   Farber was a native ... Read more
