Translation Cheki translation checki is an...
Review posted Wed 22 May '13

I guess most of us still use Google Translate when it comes to getting accurate translations of foreign language text. It's not too difficult to do except that it takes a few click and pastes and then there's the question of how much text you can translate at any one time, of course. So when an app like this one for iOS comes along, it does make the regular translator sit up and take notice. Translation Cheki takes the cut and paste hassle out of translation by having the app running constantly in the background so all your need to ... Read more

Review posted Wed 3 Apr '13  ·  4 comments

It seems like a parent's life takes a bit of a  back seat as soon as a child comes along and takes up the majority of their time. Trying to further yourself with classes and courses can turn into a bit of a nightmare. Half the problem isn't necessarily with the harried parent though.  Quite often the problem lies with poor website information and badly organized companies who fail to deliver the information that you need. Nurturize is a new search engine application designed for parents that makes it easier to search and find the classes and courses they need ... Read more

Sharpen up your Mandarin the Farber way

BaconLanguageTomato Hungry to Learn to Speak...
Review posted Thu 31 Jan '13

Let's face it, it's pretty hard to go past a language app that takes its name from a classic sandwich, so BaconLanguageTomato had to be investigated further.it turns out that what could have been mistaken for something served up for breakfast or lunch at O'Doule's in San Francisco, turns out to be a very smart and neat looking app that asks if you are hungry to speak the Mandarin Chinese language. It's a virtual Mandarin dictionary with an unusual slant that puts into practice a technique made famous by former US radio host Barry Farber.   Farber was a native ... Read more

Crowdin Collaborative Localization...
Review posted Fri 5 Oct '12  ·  1 comment

I'm sure we've all bought one of those kits where the instructions have obviously been really badly translated from its native language into English. We laugh at how ludicrous the translations are but, in reality, it's hardly the stuff that will encourage you to make a repeat purchase  - especially if your kit doesn't quite turn out how it was supposed to. For the professional organization, the translation of your written material is vitally important and Crowdin offers a 'best in show' app for iOS and Android that is a complete solution to translation problems whether your project is in ... A fun and effective way of learning conversational Japanese

StudyChat Japanese Learning Japanese Made Fun
Review posted Tue 28 Aug '12

They say that if you are going to learn a language then the earlier you start the better. But why is that I wonder? Surely, the brain power of an adult with their learning capacity and drive is going to be able to pick up a language at least as quickly as a little kid. So maybe the learning pattern is not quite right. StudyChat Japanese was developed to incorporate an element of fun into language learning in the same way that kids are taught new words and phrases in another language.  It uses the simple and fun  idea of ... For me, there is only one service that I ever use when I need to translate one language into another. Google Translate is the pinnacle of language translators and it's good to see that lightroomapps have updated it and built this version for all your iOS iDevices. GoTranslate translates words as well as sentences between over 66 different languages, contains translation history and allows you to sync it over iCloud between all your devices.   GoTranslate is what's known as a 'best in class' application and everything else will be compared to it. Why? Well, apart from the credibility given ... Read more

Review posted Tue 3 Apr '12

One of the most perplexing problems of learning a language online is that it's difficult to get immediate feedback on some of the nuances of the language you are learning. Fixoodle goes some way to addressing this problem by going social and having online friends who speak the lingo oversee and correct any mistakes that you might have made. By connecting you with fluent friends this language and learning application puts a whole new spin on the art of linguistics by letting you converse with native speakers via global messaging, virtual classrooms and video sharing. Monkey Write: Learn to write Chinese Learn to write Chinese
Review posted Thu 29 Mar '12

This simple Learn to write Chinese application from the Monkey Write people is another in the series following their earlier Numbers, Blessings and Eating Out excursions. It's a free and easy to use language, education and learning tool for android that literally teaches one to write Chinese characters and turns it into a bit of a game that even kids can play and learn from.   It's said that the only way to truly master the complicated art of Chinese writing is practice, practice and more practice. However, doing that on paper could be construed as being rather dull - ... Read more

Vifinition Video Dictionary Crowdsourced Video Dictionary
Review posted Tue 20 Mar '12

Potential! Vifinition Video Dictionary has heaps of it. This video sharing application takes video crowdsourcing in a slightly different direction by redefining the way we perceive words and phrases in our search mechanisms. Rather than relying solely on our tried and tested methods of the search engine, Vifinition turns the video search on its head by relying on the urban dictionary concept of finding interesting videos and adds a great element of fun to it, too. If I said the word fiasco to you - how would you define it as a piece of video art?   Vifinition introduces a ... Read more

Review posted Tue 27 Dec '11

You've only got to look at the career of former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who is fluent in Mandarin, to realize the respect the Chinese business community has for someone who can be bothered to learn their language. And with the Chinese economy still booming it is important that you put on your best show when dealing with their business people. Far East Business Chinese is a language app for Android that is specifically designed to teach business people the rudimentaries of conversing with Chinese business people in their own language.   Far East Business Chinese is aimed at ...
