Gablit is a new entertainment and recommendation, social search engine, born out of London a few years back, when three entrepreneurial types realized one night when they had lost their mobile phone, that trying to find the best entertainment available was turning into a full time job. They decided to develop this classy, informative, localized entertainment guide that encourages entertainers to promote their event and  gives the audience a place to find out everything that is going on around them or wherever they are planning on visiting.   Gablit solves a problem that people often find themselves having to deal ... NewsHugs It's not all bad news
Review posted Tue 19 Mar '13  ·  1 comment

Life's not all bad news. But you wouldn't believe that when you are looking at the news tv news programs or reading newspapers these days. Tsunami's in Asia, shootings in America and floods in every nook and cranny the world over - these news stories seem to be the bastion of modern reporting. The more tragic the story is, the more papers or advertising space gets sold. But, it doesn't have to be like that. America's ABC News with Diane Sawyer tends to be dotted with unsentimental feel good stories but it seems to be the only one. And that ... Read more

Review posted Thu 14 Mar '13  ·  11 comments

A social network for the deceased? Ten years ago it would never even be considered but in the 21st Century it seems like a brilliant idea. I don't know whether it has been the popularity of tv shows like "Who Do Yo Think You Are?" or the rise in genealogy sites like Ancestry but the interest in giving due homage to the deceased has increased beyond belief. A brief obituary in the local newspaper isn't enough these days. Light an ICandle is a social remembrance application and gives you a place to create a digital afterlife for the dearly departed. ... Review posted Thu 14 Mar '13  ·  13 comments

More and more businesses these days are adopting the idea of an internal business social collaboration network to aide communication in the workplace. For a start, most people are pretty familiar with the social network concept and use it on a regular basis so the learning factor is minimal. But secondly, it allows your workers to communicate in individual teams as well as across the whole business and negates the need for endless emails and time spent in meetings. Communifire is a new enterprise social collaboration application that makes for superb real-time communication between your staff while still retaining control ... Read more

Photo Deformer Create your own crazy photos!
Review posted Wed 6 Mar '13  ·  4 comments

Ah well, it seems that everyone wants a wacky photo in their collection. Most cameras on your computer seem to have a few filters these days to warp our photos into almost unrecognizable bastardizations. Some of us just share them with their friends for a laugh while some find it a good way to produce a profile picture that is not only funny but also disguises them a little. Photo Deformer is a new photo editing app for smartphones that lets you warp and deform your photos and turn you portrait into a caricature of your former self.   Photo ... Read more

Slap up your secret handshake and get social

Review posted Tue 5 Mar '13

While many consider the 'secret handshake' as a modern day phenomenon that is often associated with the 'cooler' sporting teams, it originates from a time way before the days of the Harlem Globetrotters. The Freemasons Society have been reported as having twelve different secret greetings but there are references that go back to biblical times. The modern day equivalent is the hand 'slap' and Slap It Up is a new, entertaining and unique memory game for iOS that encourages you to create custom 'slaps.' Challenge your friends to match your efforts and share your unique 'slaps' with your favorite social ... Read more

Finger Flair Finger Flair iPhone/iPad App
Review posted Sun 3 Mar '13  ·  6 comments

Finger Flair is one of those apps that serve little purpose other than for pure unadulterated fun. This bizarre but artistic mix of music, art and science is a trippy little animation app for iOS that lets you control all the visuals that you put on the screen with just your fingers. You create a bunch of very cool animations and turn it into wallpaper at the touch of a finger or two. Not only that but, as a truly mind blowing experience, you can add some of your own groovy music to play along with it.   Finger Flair ... Read more

Review posted Thu 21 Feb '13

Well here is a very pleasant surprise. photo2video is the underwhelming name of this new and unique stop-motion video app that will delight and amaze you and your friends alike. This rather plain looking app with the even plainer name appears to be nothing more than a simple photo editing app but what lies inside its inconsequential outer package is far more interesting. With this simple yet rewarding app you can capture a set of photos and create your very own stop motion short movie and, just maybe, set you on the way to become the next Martin Scorsese or ... Review posted Tue 19 Feb '13

London is a very big city and on any given week there is something like 600 concerts to choose from featuring everything from Irish folk to top 40 to the very best classical orchestras in the world. There's also around 30 different theatrical performances playing not to mention the 11000 bars and restaurants at your disposal. So if you are a visitor to the 'Big Smoke,' as it used to be known, it's almost a full time job to research where to go. You could pick up a copy of Timeout and a bunch of other mags or log on ...
