A chance for small businesses to compete on social networks

SocialCentiv Turn Conversations into...
Review posted Mon 15 Apr '13  ·  6 comments

Advertising on social media sites has become commonplace over the last few years. It was a boon to really small shops and small businesses because it gave them free advertising and a chance to talk to their fans on a regular basis. But it still isn't easy to get your word across to a bigger audience. Its a lot easy if you are willing to spend big bucks on your advertising campaigns but that just generally isn't an issue for businesses on small, tight budgets. So thats where a social media monitoring app like SocialCentiv comes in. It is designed ... Read more

While this iPhone app might be an incredibly simple concept, it is quite often the simplest of apps that prove to be the most successful. So, why is it that I think that this messaging app might achieve world dominance. Well, let's assume you are trying to encourage your local Twitter friends to come to a party or a gig that night or maybe you are trying to meet up at a bar for a drink. You could tweet them all individually or link them but that could take a lot of time and all those names will use up ... Read more

Review posted Mon 25 Mar '13  ·  13 comments

Gablit is a new entertainment and recommendation, social search engine, born out of London a few years back, when three entrepreneurial types realized one night when they had lost their mobile phone, that trying to find the best entertainment available was turning into a full time job. They decided to develop this classy, informative, localized entertainment guide that encourages entertainers to promote their event and  gives the audience a place to find out everything that is going on around them or wherever they are planning on visiting.   Gablit solves a problem that people often find themselves having to deal ... London is a very big city and on any given week there is something like 600 concerts to choose from featuring everything from Irish folk to top 40 to the very best classical orchestras in the world. There's also around 30 different theatrical performances playing not to mention the 11000 bars and restaurants at your disposal. So if you are a visitor to the 'Big Smoke,' as it used to be known, it's almost a full time job to research where to go. You could pick up a copy of Timeout and a bunch of other mags or log on ... Review posted Fri 8 Feb '13

One of the things that sets the biggest sporting teams apart from the also-rans in their field are their rabid supporters who will support their team through thick and thin. NFL has the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and  New York Giants, baseball has the NY Yankees and the LA Dodgers, basketball has the Lakers and the biggest of all - soccer (or football, as it is known in most territories) has the Spanish clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona and finally, there are England's Manchester United and London's famous Arsenal. Formed in the 19th Century, Arsenal - or ... Read more

Review posted Wed 6 Feb '13

Your local Main Street retailer isn't going to like hearing this but there are an awful lot of items that can be bought at much cheaper prices in other countries rather than at your local shopping complex. And while it may not be particularly good for the local economy, if you spent a bit of time shopping around online you can probably find your item at a better price in a store in a different country. The problem is, though...how do you get hold of your item after you've found it? PriceItBuy takes your online shopping social by connecting you ... Read more

Review posted Sat 2 Feb '13

It would be hard to imagine a more comprehensive, informative and beautiful iOS application than this one. Not only does EarthBuzz Weather look like a million dollars but it is filled with real-time satellite data on weather conditions worldwide. It also looks like it was made for iPad - the perfect platform to view it. While there has been a plethora of weather apps made available it's difficult to imagine one better than this unique free 3D masterpiece that, unlike many of the others, backs up its good looks with meaningful weather data.   EarthBuzz is an interactive social weather ... LikeHack Your personal content curator
Review posted Fri 1 Feb '13

I've been saying for a while now that having much more than a couple of hundred Facebook friends almost turns into a full time job trying to keep up with the numerous feeds. Add that to your Twitter feeds and the rest of posts and status updates and you can start to feel a little overwhelmed by information - and most of it is probably of no interest to you whatsoever. LikeHack is a social content curator that personalizes your social network feeds giving you only the tuff you are really interested in.   LikeHack is a simple, easy to ... Read more

I'm not so sure that the individual Twitter user will find Tweet Category particularly useful unless they are feeling a little nerdish but for business analysis it's one of those apps that's going to save you a lot of time. This social media monitoring and analysis application for iPad was designed with love and care to try and make some order out of the copious amount of tweets coming your way everyday to enhance theTwitter experience. Tweet Category sorts your tweets into preselected categories so you don't have to even think about the ones that don't interest you ... leaving ... Read more

Let me just say that it was barely half an hour into my toodling around with this social news application that I totally fell in love with it ... hook, line and sinker. So what was it that set my heart a flutter you ask? Well, Skimzee is a wonderfully simple to use, news and social media aggregator that not only gathers news on damned near every subject under the sun but also scans your favorite social networking feeds to find the latest news and opinions on your search subject. Now you may well say that that's a lot of ... Read more
