BarLink Online Connecting Online with Real...
Review posted Sat 28 Jan '12

Dear oh dear, whatever next? I guess I’m getting a bit too old for new crazes in the pubs and bars of the world but just reading the developers blurb for this one gives a strong enough hint that the art of conversation and personal interaction is sadly on the way out. There is obviously a market for something like this as the site points out what we all know already. That is on that many a night out with a group of friends at least half of them will spend more time tapping away at their cell phones than taking part ... Read more

A social network with a secret sign

The Four Finder You have found your four
Review posted Fri 13 Jan '12  ·  1 comment

Right, are you sitting down because this does get a little complicated? I've never seen a social network that works quite the same way that The Four Finder does. It seems to take the adventure aspect of Four Square and marries it to a social network as another way of introducing you to possible new friendships. The other things this social and mapping has that the others don't is a very cool name and a secret sign for members. But more about that later.   The Four Finder helps you to meet new friends. If you want to introduce yourself ... Read more

Putting the social back into moviegoing

MovieGoer The best way to go to the...
Review posted Mon 19 Dec '11  ·  2 comments

It used to be that the best form of advertising for your movie was purely word-of-mouth. When you saw a movie that you liked you would tell your friends who would tell their friends and so on. The movies became a very social occasion. MovieGoer is a social movie and video sharing app for your iPhone that tries to put the social back into movie going. It uses peer pressure to encourage more people to actually go to the movies rather than catching a film on video.   MovieGoer is a new kind of mobile app that applies social networking ... Read more

Poking, squeezing and smelling things - groceries and eating under control

Ziplist Managing your grocery list...
Review posted Thu 15 Dec '11

I have to say when I first happened upon this one I had one immediate thought; since when has grocery shopping been a whole family event? I’m kind of glad I looked a bit deeper into it though because it does have some great features that go beyond just sharing a shopping list with the rest of your hungry crew. Sad that I am to admit it I’m a guy who not only enjoys cooking but also enjoys cruising the aisles of grocery stores poking and squeezing and smelling things. This app will help you indulge in both of those activities and ... Read more

Sprout Robot

SproutRobot Grow your groceries
Review posted Wed 14 Dec '11

Here’s a topical one. You can’t watch a cookery programme these days without the celebrity chef banging on about the pleasure of growing your own fruit and veg. As if he actually gets down and dirty with a spade and a hoe! He’ll be too busy in make-up or signing his latest recipe book. It does however have a certain charm about it but for people of a certain age it’s something that your dad did. Add to that the likelihood that he learnt the skill from his dad and you start to get the picture; why did I never ask ... Read more

Unanchor Less research, more travel
Review posted Thu 8 Dec '11  ·  1 comment

If you've traveled a fair bit you'll know that the best way to discover a new city is to talk to local people. There's no better way to come to grips with a city that to discover it's underbelly and to go where the locals go and not so much where the tourists go. Unanchor is a travel and social app that was developed after a year long trip through Asia and much ploughing through Lonely Planet guides to find the more interesting side of a city that isn't normally seen by travelers. It features detailed guides written by locals ... Read more

EchoEcho Where are you?
Review posted Tue 6 Dec '11

I've lost count of the times when I've agreed to meet friends at a particular bar or restaurant and one of us haven't been able to find the place. EchoEcho is a geo-social tool for your mobile that let's you find exactly where anyone in your address book is at any time of the day or night. And they will show you with the added benefit of a map showing you how to find them. Texting your location is like dancing your phone number.
