AsPDF is one of those types of apps that I love the most. While it appears to be little more than a place to submit and share PDF's - generally not the most exciting and fun concept - there are two different functions that AsPDF can fulfill. One the one hand it's a place to find thousands of manuals, documents and research material on anything from cancer research to any number how-to manuals. But on a sneakier and very clever level it could also be a place where you could effectively store all your home manuals and technical information and ... Read more
Don’t let the name of this one fool you. If you thought it was merely an alternative to the old school register then you need to take a closer look. It does have an updated version of that function of course but it also has a host of features that make it an all-round campus management system. Whether you run a school, college or university it will help you streamline a lot of the processes that have historically taken up valuable teaching time. What’s more it has a level of collaboration attached to it that enables students and their parents to ... Read more
Having access to the question paper before sitting an exam would obviously give you a considerable advantage but few of us have ever had that luxury. It strikes me as slightly comical therefore that a group of business school students have got together to develop a site that aims to give you the answers to questions that might arise when you’re being interviewed for a management consultant post. While ReadCube doesn't contain anything earth shatteringly extra to similar apps like Papers For Macintosh, Mendeley and Zotero, it is a very useful and attractive looking alternative to have around. ReadCube streamlines PubMed / Google Scholar searches and article downloads, helps researchers to organize and annotate publications as well as creating references with Endnote and simplifying the whole literature research thing. I like this app. Based in Poland (and available in English or Polish language versions), this online app makes life very easy if you need to create a .pdf file of any web page. You simply enter the full url (including http://) and click a button! A few seconds later the file is available for download. Read more
I’m sorry but I really don’t get this one at all. When I first saw the title I assumed it would be a useful educational source of famous questions throughout history such as "how do you like your omelette cooked Mr Bennett?" Read more
It was never going to take long before the world woke up to the fact that a “Facebook” like application could actually have some real uses other than announcing parties, displaying pictures of new kittens and all the other dross that gets posted hourly. Read more
There have been plenty of times when I've said to a Twittere friend "Have you read any Jonathan Carroll books?" Of course, they've generally never heard of him so I offer to send them something so they can see if they like his writing. That's where it gets a little tricky. I could just go out and buy a copy of "Sleeping In Flames" and post it off but that takes time. I could use a file sharing site but, let's face it, that's a bit of a hassle. Twtebook is a PDF book share tool for Twitter that let's ... Read more
Do you remember your dreams? I used to have a recurring dream a few years back where there would be large jellybeans slowly flying past my head in space in a Star Wars formation when I was anxious about something. Any budding psychoanalysts out there want to have a go at that one? I wish I could remember more because I find the whole thing fascinating. DreamDoze is an advice and knowledge share tool that allows people to share and document their dreams and have them interpreted by people from different perspectives. The interpreters range from other dreamers to ... Read more
