Tower defence strategy - the way it was meant to be!

Sentinel 3: Homeworld The best tower defense...
Review posted Thu 12 Apr '12

Every now and again, a game comes along that redefines a genre. Sentinel 3: Homeworld is just such a game. It is a tower defence strategy game that pits you against the usual waves of ever more formidable enemies, but it does so with such flare and panache that we felt it worth a mention here. Firstly, you have a Commander, a giant robot (Mech Warrior style) that forms the basis of your defence. This commander "levels up" as you progress through the game and attributes such as "shot strength", "health", "PSI (the effect he has on nearby turrets)" and ... Read more

Create and share scrapbooks with social friends

Wollage, the social-scrapbook creatively share your...
Review posted Tue 10 Apr '12  ·  3 comments

Scrapbooking was huge during the nineties if I remember rightly but i guess it got rather swallowed up by the social networking phenomena over recent years. Wollage re-activates the scrapbooking theme and brings it up to date with the new century technology by turning it social. Rather than painstakingly sticking photos, precious memories and a myriad of other stuff into your scrapbook and then filing it under the stairs for viewing later by a select few, Wollage brings your collective memories into a social setting by allowing you to create your scrapbook online and then sharing it with friends and ... One of the saddest things that has happened over the last few years has been the demise of the music store. These days you have to do a lot more work to find some good new music. Sworly is a social music and video share application that could well be a way of making your music searching a little easier by ... Read more

Monkey Write: Learn to write Chinese Learn to write Chinese
Review posted Thu 29 Mar '12

This simple Learn to write Chinese application from the Monkey Write people is another in the series following their earlier Numbers, Blessings and Eating Out excursions. It's a free and easy to use language, education and learning tool for android that literally teaches one to write Chinese characters and turns it into a bit of a game that even kids can play and learn from.   It's said that the only way to truly master the complicated art of Chinese writing is practice, practice and more practice. However, doing that on paper could be construed as being rather dull - ... Read more

Review posted Thu 22 Mar '12

Draw Something Free is a draw and word game for Android, iPhone, iPad and IPod Touch that has turned into something of a phenomenon. Developed by Zynga, it's a hilarious and totally addictive game that owes a little to the word game Pictionary. Zynga's previous games include Farmville, Cityville and Words With Friends. When you see your friends staring at their smartphone screen for ages as they concentrate on drawing before bursting into laughter you'll have a pretty good idea that they are playing Draw Something Free.   Here is, without doubt, the most popular free social drawing and guessing ... A video dictionary of words and phrases that could be the next Pinterest

Vifinition Video Dictionary Crowdsourced Video Dictionary
Review posted Tue 20 Mar '12

Potential! Vifinition Video Dictionary has heaps of it. This video sharing application takes video crowdsourcing in a slightly different direction by redefining the way we perceive words and phrases in our search mechanisms. Rather than relying solely on our tried and tested methods of the search engine, Vifinition turns the video search on its head by relying on the urban dictionary concept of finding interesting videos and adds a great element of fun to it, too. If I said the word fiasco to you - how would you define it as a piece of video art?   Vifinition introduces a ... Read more
