With the sun blazing down furiously over many parts of the world right now it may be the right time to think about protecting your skin from its harshness. Skin cancers or Melanomas are responsible for more deaths than any other cancers worldwide these days so it is vitally important that we pay particular attention to skin protection. The old way, of course, would be the old Slip, Slop, Slap idea but, with the introduction of the SPF or sun protection factor, things have got a bit more technical. Be Skin Smart is a totally personalized new South African health and lifestyle application for IOS that sends you and your family alarm bells when it's time to apply more sun tan lotion.
We all like to spend time in the sun but we don't always look after our skin quite as well as we could. The Be Skin Smart app allows you to fix this in a flash. In just a few easy steps the app lets you calculate your skin type by selecting the colour of your eyes, the colour of your hair, your skin tone and the amount of freckles you have. Then you can save your personal profile information so that the app can get to work and even add a photo of yourself. Once the Protection Timer knows a little bit about you, you can simply add the factor SPF you're using. The timer will then calculate how long you can stay in the sun and will alert you via audio, vibration and notification alerts when you need to reapply your sunscreen. You can even set up multiple profiles for your family and friends and run multiple timers simultaneously - each with a separate alert.
South Africa has 50% more solar radiation than they do in Europe so they know what they are talking about when it comes to protection from the sun. Its a scary fact but one bad case of sunburn before the age of 18 doubles your chances of getting skin cancer. So when the South Africans develop an app to help you cover up from the sun it's probably worth paying attention. Be Skin Smart is simple to use and clear to understand. Just put each family member's individual skin and body details into the app as well as the SPF number of the sun screen being used and the app will sound an alarm when it's time to reapply more. Simple and very sensible.
