One thing that many a budding independent filmmaker doesn't realize until its too late is that the art of making a movie isn't just about the physical action of making the film itself. The grim reality is that there's a lot of paperwork involved - especially if you are the producer, director and writer. With film industry budgets tighter than they have been for many years, it's important to be well organized and have everything mapped out for when things do go off the rails a bit - and they probably will. There are a number of apps on the market to help you with this - Scenechronize being one of best. Now there's another contender, however. Moviestud.io deals with everything from production management, scheduling and budgeting to locations, call times and daylight hours - and delivers it at a lower price than many of its competitors.

Moviestud.io is an app that was created specifically for independent filmmakers to help with their production process. It begins when you import your script into the app and, within a few clicks, you can be creating your budget, your call sheets and production boards. You can upload photos and files associated with your cast and crew as well as possible filming locations, props, wardrobe and pretty much anything else that will prove important to your film. The production board, scene breakdowns and budget are generated automatically as soon as you import your script and all the data that you enter flows through to your budget and call sheets automatically - saving you a hell of a lot of time and money. The clean and easy-to-use indie film budget template is fully customizable and organizes your costings while braking them down, department by department. The app lets you create detailed call sheets carrying all the relevant production information - from scene and location information to props and call times. Store any file you need for your production including headshots, location photos, storyboards, scripts and even receipts and access them from any device wherever you are. It will even give you a list of the props and wardrobe requirements for the scenes that you are shooting and give you a look in advance at what is scheduled for the next day's shooting. Moviestud.io costs a lot less than traditional desktop budgeting and scheduling software and has the added bonus of giving access to this important information whether you are in your office, on set or on location.

Moviestud.io is a new and much improved version of Indie Intern - in redevelopment for some time. Many things have changed apart from the name - all for the better. These changes include a completely new design, a heap of new and improved features and a brand new user interface to better match the filmmaker's workflow. I love the fact that the app realizes that there will be problems ahead and that it is flexible enough to deal with them. If there is a problem you can just pick up your phone while you are on set, change tomorrow's shooting schedule and email new call sheets to everybody ... with one click. If you are a new filmmaker you should also take a look at the in-app blog - there is a mass of useful info in there. There are also a bunch of features that weren't quite ready for this release that will be added over the coming weeks / months. Its easy to see that Moviestud.io was designed and created by professionals who know their business.
