Well I knew there would be an app out there for just about everything but I hadn’t banked on chickens! Still, with the whole world now keen to source local produce and worried about food miles this one is certainly trying to do its bit when it comes to egg production and distribution.
The driver behind Eggzy is a campaign to get the country keeping a flock of backyard chickens and what a great idea. There can’t be too many culinary delights better than eating a freshly laid egg collected just a few yards away from your back door but how about selling them through a local network too?
I can hear the questions already from people who don’t know the first thing about keeping chickens but hey, that’s what the site exists for. You can get advice on breeds as well as where to get them from and most important of all how to maintain the welfare of your little feathered food providers too.
As well as advice Eggzy provides helpful tools to help manage egg production and calculate expenses and overall project costs. There is even a plan available showing you how you can build your own coop to keep the clucker's safe from harm.
As a network you’ll be joining in with other users some of whom will be experts so there is a great deal of help around. You’ll not only be able to market your eggs to a wider audience but feel happy that you’re going some way to feeding the local community.
Hopefully sites like this will help us all get back to how it used to be when you knew that a lot of what you were eating came from just around the corner.
Conclusion
I like the idea of this one. It has community written all the way through it as well as much wider worldwide implications. All for the good I hasten to add.
