You must have heard about GarageBand. It's Apple's glorious music creator that has been around for a little while now. Well now it's available for iPad iPod Touch and iPhone and, without doubt, I have to say that it is one of Apple's finest creations. For those not aware, GarageBand gives you an array of tools that allow you to play copious amounts of instruments, record music and even jam with friends. What's more, you can play wherever you have an Internet connection and whenever you want.
Whether you’re a musical prodigy or just love creating your own walls of sound, GarageBand for iOS gives you all the tools you need to lay down fresh tracks, have a jam session with friends and record music anywhere you go. It lets you play a collection of highly expressive musical instruments designed for Multi-Touch that sound and play just like their real counterparts. The only thing is, GarageBand let's you do all sorts of things you could never do on a real instrument. Tap out beats on three acoustic drum kits. The snare, kick, toms, hi-hat and cymbals each produce different tones depending on where and how hard you tap them. For the sweetening you can conduct an entire string orchestra with just one finger. Slide up and down to create huge, dramatic swells. Or tap for short pizzicato hits. You can also switch to Notes view and play solo on the violin, viola, cello, or bass. Now you and your friends can play and record together like a real band using only your iOS devices. All of your devices sync to the same key and tempo so everyone sounds great together. And when you’re done recording, each track automatically appears on the bandleader’s device so it’s easy to mix and share. Grab up to three friends - each with an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch - and you've got yourself a jam session. Connect over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and start making some music. Arrange and mix your songs anywhere inspiration strikes using a powerful eight-track recording studio that can handle any combination of audio recordings, Touch Instruments, and loops. Then create your song by trimming and arranging musical regions exactly where you want them to play. Swipe to reveal the mixer to fine-tune each track for the perfect mix. Once you’re happy with a few tracks, merge them together to free up some space for creating a fuller sound. GarageBand now includes even more ways to share your music. In addition to email, you can share your songs directly to Facebook, YouTube and SoundCloud. Or send them to iMovie to add a custom soundtrack to your movie. Export songs to your iTunes library or open them in GarageBand on your Mac to keep the creative process going.
The future of the world’s musical heritage is at stake here and music apps like GarageBand are the way of the future. Rather than plunking on a cheap guitar or a crappy keyboard, here you can play the best instruments and create music using sophisticated technology. When our budding muso goes on to make music for real they will use different instruments but GarageBand is a great place to start. If you are a hopeless musician you can still even have heaps of fun with the prerecorded backing tracks that you can lay your stuff over the top. It's bliss. Could it get any better than this? I doubt it.
