There are a lot of receipt and expense trackers out there and so it’s refreshing to come across a new one that’s got something different to shout about. It could be described as lemon fresh but then again it already has, by the site itself.
Well it’s certainly got more pips than some of the others for sure and it’s these pips that could make it a very popular app indeed.
When you sign up you get your own @lemon.com email account and you can send any receipts you receive by email to this. This aspect gets better but more of that later. Paper receipts can be photographed on your smartphone with the lemon mobile app taking care of the rest. Either way all of your receipt data ends up in one place and you can access it from any PC, phone or tablet that has been linked within you lemon account.
Whilst a lot of tracker sites these days accept receipts in similar ways, the actual total is generally the only piece of information they use. In recognizing that receipts contain a lot of useful data, lemon.com is soon to add a function where they will be analysed and benefits like price alerts, deals and reviews can be alerted to users.
There are standard labels that can be used to categorize receipts however this system lets you create as many different ones as you want. If you use a number of different credit cards for instance you can define which one was used rather than grouping every purchase under one credit card category. This level of detail gives the subsequent reports generated a lot more meaning and is especially useful for work related expense claims.
All of your receipt information, along with useful budgeting charts and graphs are of course all available on a clear and user friendly dashboard.
I promised more on the @lemon.com email account feature and I’ll keep my word as it could solve a problem you, along with the vast majority, may suffer from.
When buying anything that involves an online receipt your inbox generally gets hit with a whole lot more spam and offer details as well. By issuing your @lemon.com account to merchants your receipts (plus accompanying spam) will land there. The helpful guys at lemon will then analyze and prioritize them making sure you only get information you need.
Conclusion
It’s time to throw those receipts away; they’ll be of more benefit to you in the cloud than they ever would in your wallet.
