BrewFridge: More drunkenness...so soon after New Year's Eve!

Now come on! Does anybody seriously collect beer? The whole notion of someone actually collecting beer sums up an image of a guy opening the fridge or cupboard door, staring admiringly at the bottles (and maybe even stroking a few) before closing it again still thirsty. In the loosest sense of the term I suppose that I am collector of beer but in the Homer Simpson mould. I collect a slab on a weekly basis and would you believe it I have to collect another load a week later!

I can understand people collecting vintage wine and I reviewed an app recently that helps people organize their cellar. Beer however, no matter how noble the saintly beverage is, needs drinking and enjoying a few seconds after it’s been removed from the trunk of your car.

Apologies if I come across as if I’m in need of a session with AA but this site states that "many beer lovers forget what beers they have." How does that happen? Are they buying so much that they have to store it in a lock-up unit a few blocks away from their home?

So we’ve established that I’m not convinced about hoarding beer but I can see some benefits to beer lovers with Brewfridge. For a start, spreading the word about quality ales is akin to the work of a missionary as far as I’m concerned and the tasting notes function will certainly let you rate and learn about any hidden gems.

In this respect I can see it working as a great community beer lover’s site where opinions and recommendations are exchanged about new and exciting brews. As for letting me know the whereabouts of my collection, I kind of already know that on a weekly basis. I drank it!

Conclusion

Depending on whether you’re a glass half full or glass half empty sort of guy you might get something out of this one, cheers!

Andy Thanks for the review, and shockingly enough, there are many types of beers that age very well ( http://beeradvocate.com/beer/101/store ). Obviously this isn't for all types of beers, but I think if you were to try some beer that has been stored, you may change your tune a bit. Also, there are many people who drink beer as they do wine, trying to find their perfect beer, compare tasting notes, etc... For this, they may have quite a few bombers or 12 oz bottles in their fridge or cellar. Allowing them to keep track of what they have, and what they've tried is what we're trying to accomplish

In addition, we are currently doing a complete re-write of the site to include additional features people who can't stand the thought of trying aged beer, with a more social aspect for people who want to connect with others, get recommendations on new beer to try based on their already reviewed beer, and much more.

Admin Thanks Andy - yes, our reviewer spends too much time drinking cheap beer to fully appreciate the finer points :-) I'm sure there is a niche crowd that would get great benefit from the app. Look forward to seeing the new version. Fri 20 Jan '12  ·  Flag
