"He was a man of few words" is a phrase you don't hear so much these days. It seems that everyone has an opinion on everything and no one is afraid to express those opinions. But half the trouble there is that where Twitter restricts it's tweets to 140 characters that is sometimes even too much. It would be interesting to condense that to a smaller figure to make one's opinions virtual soundbites of your thoughts. Hycku is a Nano-blogging service where you can deliver your ideas and thoughts in just seven words or less.
Hycku is a Nano-blogging service that helps you stay updated and connected with your friends and family by answering "Whatz up?" in just seven words or less - rather like the Japanese poetic writing known as "haiku." So why would you want to have to condense your thoughts and ideas into a seven word soundbite. Well, it's a funny thing but sometimes less really is more - or, at the very least, the same. It's bit like your status update on Facebook or your Twittering tweets where you try to fill the world with your pearls of wisdom and it's often that the best one's are the one's that are the most succinct. They are the ones that you remember. In a study of employment methods in the US it was noticed that experts could pick a potential employee within 2 minutes and have the same success rate as companies that went though several stages of employer interviews. So, as i say, sometimes less really is more.
Hycku couldn't be simpler to use if it's name was Twitter. It really is a case of typing in your words of wisdom and encouraging your friends to join you in a seven word chatfest. So what expectations can you have of Hycku? Is it going to replace Twitter as the next big thing? It looks unlikely. Is it going to be filled with amazing epithets from some of the wittiest people around? Highly unlikely if Twitter is anything to go by. If nothing else it will maybe limit the inane dribbling of the social networking wordsmiths and force them into coming up with something a little more to the point. Be thankful for small free mercies. Personally I think this is taking minimalism to a new level.
