Budget Your Trip Budget Your Trip Info Visit

For a lot of travellers knowing the cost of a local beer is about as close as they get to a budget plan. For those with a little more eye for detail however(and more of a handle on their cash) there is now an app available that not only helps you track your spending but can let you know how much that beer will cost too.

Budgetyourtrip.com is one of a number of budget sites out there but with an obvious difference in that it caters purely for the traveller, and fairly heavy-duty traveller at that. This is not really a site that will interest someone planning a week away on the beach but for anyone planning a career break or student gap year to take in the world, then it could be very useful.

There are a number of tools and variations available on the app but basically it has two distinct functions.

Firstly it provides a guide to average prices in many of the cities of the world. It manages this by getting registered members to provide the data on-line when visiting a city. Signed-up members who have used the site to create a budget for their trip will enter actual expenses as part of the apps function as and when they occur. This information, along with similar numbers from other travellers is combined and analysed and presented on-line as average daily costs for each city.

For travellers looking to set up a budget for their trip and then keep close tabs on it whilst on the move, budgetyourtrip.com can deliver the service via its Android app. By entering daily spending details this quick and easy function can then produce a summary of total costs and daily averages. Subsequent access to the full website will reward the traveller with a whole heap of data including charts, graphs and maps to go along with a detailed expenses breakdown by category and location.

The site also has sections for travel agents who can use the information to advise clients and also for corporate travellers to help them keep within business budgets.

Conclusion
For anyone travelling long distances over a time and taking in several countries, the need to keep a check on how the cash is standing up to the trip is fairly key. This app seems to have all the basics required to track spending and match it to budgets and the average price guide, whilst still not comprehensive, is helpful. A word of caution though, averages should only be a guide and if they’re not weighted could be a little out. Anyone who’s been to Venice will know that the price of a coffee on St Mark’s Square could probably pay for a bowl of pasta and half a litre of house wine just a few blocks away.
