I can't say it hasn't been done before because iTunes and Google TV both offer similar services but Boxee does offer something different to both of them in it's ability to play pretty well anything and everything you can play on your computer. And with 40,000 episodes available to watch you should be able to find that episode of Seinfeld that runs backwards quite easily. And, of course, it's free.
