Guess Who your friends are when a favorite board game goes digital

Chooz Who How well do you REALLY know...
Review posted Sun 19 May '13  ·  2 comments

Do people still play real board games, I wonder. One thing's for sure, it's getting harder and harder to find a true toy store that sells these sort of games. The problem is, I guess, that with so many games now being transformed into games that can be played digitally there is a perception that if they ain't on your smartphone or tablet then they aren't worth playing. The introduction of the incredibly user-friendly iPad a few years back and the consequent rise of the tablet revolutionized the market even more and opened up all these games to a new ... Read more

Create your own "Leonard Maltin-style" movie database

Review posted Wed 24 Apr '13  ·  1 comment

Since the glory days of movies, when Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide was to be seen on pretty much every film fan's bookshelf, all of us movie buffs have wanted to create a database of films we have watched. The Maltin guides would often feature movie reviews highlighted in different colors for 'films seen' and 'films not seen yet' and this is where a specific iPhone app is the obvious choice to take its place. Watched is a beautiful looking film tracking and review application where you can list, rate, review and share your personal movie collection with your friends.   ... Read more

Match play that your mother wont even mind you playing

Last Match Last Match is a simple folk...
Review posted Fri 19 Apr '13

I'm sure most of you will be fairly familiar with the concept of Last Match but, as with so many apps based on classic games, this online version for iOS provides an extra dimension to add to the pure simplicity of the original game. Last Match is based on the age-old game that has been played by everyone from Boy Scouts to bored grannies for decades. But in truth, it probably goes back way earlier than that. It's a simple game that has been refined for online play and involves four different types of 'matchstick' games - the end result ... Read more

Review posted Sun 7 Apr '13  ·  1 comment

The thing about this new iOS game is that pretty well all of us have played it in one form or another before so we will be fairly familiar with the concept. I'm sure most of us used to have a relative at home who would fall asleep at the drop of a hat (with, more often than not,  a gin and tonic by their side) and we kids would try to have as much fun and make as much noise as we could, without waking them up. Well, that's the concept of Couch Terror. The idea of this beautifully ... Read more

Camera Hoax Best scary effects on Iphone
Review posted Fri 29 Mar '13

Many of us claim to be non believers when it comes to aliens and the supernatural but anyone who witnessed any of British mentalist and illusionist Derren Brown's recent TV shows will know that even the most avid skeptics have their moment of doubt. Let's face it, most of us get scared pretty easily. Now, I'm hardly suggesting that this new fun iOS photo editing application is going to turn your hair white overnight, but I am going to tell you that it's a great piece of entertainment that you can share with your friends. Camera Hoax is a special ... Read more

Review posted Mon 25 Mar '13  ·  13 comments

Gablit is a new entertainment and recommendation, social search engine, born out of London a few years back, when three entrepreneurial types realized one night when they had lost their mobile phone, that trying to find the best entertainment available was turning into a full time job. They decided to develop this classy, informative, localized entertainment guide that encourages entertainers to promote their event and  gives the audience a place to find out everything that is going on around them or wherever they are planning on visiting.   Gablit solves a problem that people often find themselves having to deal ... Review posted Tue 5 Mar '13  ·  14 comments

While many consider the 'secret handshake' as a modern day phenomenon that is often associated with the 'cooler' sporting teams, it originates from a time way before the days of the Harlem Globetrotters. The Freemasons Society have been reported as having twelve different secret greetings but there are references that go back to biblical times. The modern day equivalent is the hand 'slap' and Slap It Up is a new, entertaining and unique memory game for iOS that encourages you to create custom 'slaps.' Challenge your friends to match your efforts and share your unique 'slaps' with your favorite social ... Read more

Finger Flair Finger Flair iPhone/iPad App
Review posted Sun 3 Mar '13  ·  8 comments

Finger Flair is one of those apps that serve little purpose other than for pure unadulterated fun. This bizarre but artistic mix of music, art and science is a trippy little animation app for iOS that lets you control all the visuals that you put on the screen with just your fingers. You create a bunch of very cool animations and turn it into wallpaper at the touch of a finger or two. Not only that but, as a truly mind blowing experience, you can add some of your own groovy music to play along with it.   Finger Flair ... Read more

Review posted Tue 19 Feb '13

London is a very big city and on any given week there is something like 600 concerts to choose from featuring everything from Irish folk to top 40 to the very best classical orchestras in the world. There's also around 30 different theatrical performances playing not to mention the 11000 bars and restaurants at your disposal. So if you are a visitor to the 'Big Smoke,' as it used to be known, it's almost a full time job to research where to go. You could pick up a copy of Timeout and a bunch of other mags or log on ... Cutetown The most beautiful map
Review posted Thu 31 Jan '13  ·  3 comments

Fancy yourself as the next Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry? Cutetown won't quite give you the same freedom of expression as some of the buildings created by either of those great two architects but it does provide a hell of a lot of fun. The app is a beautiful 3D map editor that allows you to transform GPS maps into highly detailed three-dimensional maps of real places on iPad. Its a bit like using a digital version of Lego, I guess. At the moment, as the app is in its early stages, there are only a few places to ... Read more
