billboard.fm Listen to All The Top 100...

Let's just say for a start that whoever it was that took on this project of a billboard.fm music application has done an astonishing job. It started off as a pet project from a developer who loved listening to the music of the ages but was getting bored with seeing a song on the billboard charts, no matter what era, and having to hunt up a clip on YouTube or suchlike. So they developed this stand alone application where you can click on any song  that hit the billboard top 100 going back to 1946!!!! Pretty damned impressive, don't you ... Read more

We've all got an embarrassing story about misheard lyrics in songs that you think you are totally familiar with. Desmond Dekker's classic hit "The Israelites" always baffled me when I was a kid because I was convinced that Mr Dekker was telling me that his 'ears are alight.' Maybe you had to be there. Of late, there was a Foo Fighters song where I always wondered who the Allison was and why it was the last song he'd write to her. It wasn't until recently that I found out that Dave was singing "I listen, but your out of tune" ... Read more

EVNTLIVE Your virtual concert venue

I used to work for a concert promoter a few years back and I remember talking to him in his car one night about a Clash tour he was promoting. He was damned worried that $13 per ticket was going to prove too costly and no one would buy tickets at that price. Gee, how things have changed. Back in those days you could generally but a ticket on the night and have change to pick up a tshirt too. These days, however, you have to mortgage the house six months ahead to be sure of getting a ticket. So, ... Read more

There used to be a covers band based in London a few years ago called Gabba who featured a hugely tall singer and performed Abba songs in the style of The Ramones - ie fast! I was always convinced that it would turn into a music genre that would take hold. Imagine doing all the Bob Dylan songs in the style of Bob Marley or maybe Kanye West songs in the style of Taylor Swift (can't wait for that one.) Sadly it didn't really take off but the fate of the cover version was taken up by shows like Glee, ... Read more

Exposed Vocals The Youtube for Unsigned...

TV shows like "The Voice" and "X-Factor" have been a boon for a specific type of artist in recent times. Not only have record companies rushed to sign an awful lot of artists but those same artists have had the opportunity to sell millions of albums and often shoot to the top of the iTunes chart. But, as I said, the types of artists that tend to succeed on those sorts of TV shows are commercial pop artists who aren't too dissimilar to what's out there already. What happens to the artists who are a bit more original yet just ... Read more

One of the saddest things that has happened over the last few years has been the demise of the music store. Gone are the days when you could Wander down to the local record bar, have a chat to the guy behind the counter about his latest faves, listen to a few tunes and walk out with some great music. These days you have to do a lot more work to find some good new music. Sworly is a social music and video share application that could well be a way of making your music searching a little easier by ... Read more
