If i asked you which was the more popular entertainment for American families between major league sporting events, theme parks and museums, my guess is that you wouldn't pick museums. They have long been considered to be a bit old hat and stodgy and full of nothing but ancient relics. Surely no kid would want to see that, would they? Well, according to a 2011 study, there are over 850 million visits to museums each year. That's just about the same amount as the other two put together. Museums are actually very popular, it seems.
The thing is...museums aren't dull and stodgy in the slightest. They are actually acknowledged as the lifeblood of a major city and an important part of its make up. Not just the big ones either because the lesser known ones have their moments too. While documenting our past museums educate and inspire as well as doing their bit to conserve wildlife so that our children and our children's children get to enjoy them as much as we do. It's not just your regular museum we're talking about here either. There's zoos, there's gardens, there's art and there's the homes and birthplaces of famous people across the length and breadth of America. And there's a whole lot more besides...
