If i asked you which was the more popular entertainment for American families between major league sporting events, theme parks and museums, my guess is that you wouldn't pick museums. They have long been considered to be a bit old hat and stodgy and full of nothing but ancient relics. Surely no kid would want to see that, would they? Well, according to a 2011 study, there are over 850 million visits to museums each year. That's just about the same amount as the other two put together. Museums are actually very popular, it seems.
The thing is...museums aren't dull and stodgy in the slightest. They are actually acknowledged as the lifeblood of a major city and an important part of its make up. Not just the big ones either because the lesser known ones have their moments too. While documenting our past museums educate and inspire as well as doing their bit to conserve wildlife so that our children and our children's children get to enjoy them as much as we do. It's not just your regular museum we're talking about here either. There's zoos, there's gardens, there's art and there's the homes and birthplaces of famous people across the length and breadth of America. And there's a whole lot more besides...
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons that museums can often get ignored is that their websites tend to be a little staid and uninteresting. Much of the time the independent ones are put together by willing workers who, unfortunately, don't know how to sell their product. So, when an app like this one comes along, with great information and a good look to it, it's worth sitting up and taking notice. Mused is a lifestyle travel directory that aims to help you discover the great culture that exists everywhere that you go in the US.
The app doesn't just show you where to find museums, cultural heritage sites and important historical locations and buildings, however. Mused manages to showcase both the quirky and the not so quirky sides of America. You'll find native American artifacts, unique doll collections, stamp shows, toy museums, cartoon festivals, train and boat exhibitions, places with great architecture and even places like the wonderful Neon Boneyard in Vegas where all the old signs from the golden age of Las Vegas are kept. It also features countless zoos and gardens as well as a veritable menagerie of other weird and wonderful places with activities that everyone can enjoy.
Mused is completely free and aimed at everyone from the hardcore museum fan and tourists to daytrippers and business travelers. Initially, the app was created to shine a light on US locations but the plan is to roll out the rest of the world over the next year or so. The app also keeps you informed about all the latest exhibitions and events while also letting you know about any discounts, deals and coupons available for your favorite museums. You can discuss with others about museums and exhibits, upload photos, write reviews, give tips and even write a journal about your travel experience.
Mused is a unique travel app that makes it easy to find stunning museums and fascinating places all over the US. It's especially good for travelers who might not know their way around a town but want to see the very best that the place has to offer. It delivers all the interesting cultural and heritage activities that are in and around the area. If you see something missing from the site you can submit it yourself for approval or just send in feedback about the places you've visited. Museums themselves are also invited to send in details for inclusion to the database to increase their online visibility. Mused has done its bit so now it's your turn. It's time to get off the couch, get in the car, have a lot of fun and start musing now.
