Combine web and graphic design skills with a pancake obsession and you just might end up with a blog, a book deal and the inspiration for the name of a new business venture. Or at least that's Jim Belosic's story. Belosic is the co-founder and CEO of ShortStack, a software company that helps small-business owners and big-name agencies create custom apps for Facebook, websites and mobile web browsing. (Belosic is also the author of OMG Pancakes! and the griddle master at JimsPancakes.com.)
ShortStack users can create contests and sweepstakes, newsletter signup forms and integrations with the most popular social networks, including Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and more. This is possible through a self-service platform that consists of more than 40 tools, 70+ templates, and an extensive library of support documents, videos, references, and an email support system.
Founded in late 2010, more than 80,000 users signed up with ShortStack during its first year. During its second year, ShortStack added another 100,000 users. Now in its third year, ShortStack is the platform of choice for some of the biggest brands and celebrities on Facebook, including NBC News, Newegg.com, AMD, Mint.com and Pitbull.
Prior to founding ShortStack, Belosic owned a web and graphic design agency. In early 2009, nine years after he started the agency, many of Belosic’s clients were requesting custom Facebook apps; Belosic's team had to hand-code each app. The process was time consuming and not cost effective. To address this issue, Belosic and his developers created an internal tool to help them make apps more efficiently. One day Belosic realized they had a really cool software product that could be made available to the public. Six months later ShortStack was born and the company has been growing exponentially ever since.
The ShortStack platform is subscription based. Plans start at Free for users with 2,000 Facebook fans or fewer. Paid plans start at $30/month.
In addition to the platform, ShortStack has made a name for itself in the content marketing world. Belosic frequently writes for well-known social media blogs and websites; the company’s social media blog, Socially Stacked, features content about social media best practices, tips, news and free resources for small businesses, agencies and Facebook Page owners.
