Haven’t found anything challenging lately? Released on iOS and Android Red Runner might just be the thing for you. It starts with a basic level and things start getting tougher and tougher. The game is basically an arcade platformer using an unorthodox double tap input; can’t say that this is the first game doing so but yes it is very rare.
In Red Runner you will stumble into a retro gameplay universe which is more or less consistent throughout the game; this will make you nostalgic if you ever played on consoles. The character is unstoppable; I mean literally it is designed to run no-stop, which I think is of essence here as it pushes the gameplay forward. You will use age old interesting travel portals in the game to teleport between different worlds of Red Runner universe.
The graphics used in every world are rather beautiful. And also there is an interesting background dialogue to the game, i.e, about the sons of rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet and even Ultra; hence the name Red Runner) who are trapped in an illusion and the fight is to either to get home across levels or die trying.
Something to note is that Red Runner is the game intended to played all at once, i.e. if you die you will have to start again from 1st scene which brings the game to the tougher side. Although, you can use keys you buy from In Game currency to revive the character from the scene it died. The game is based on three set of moves which are Run, Jump, and Shoot. Every character i.e. a (son of rainbow) you unlock gives you extra power/better physics in either or even all of the moves which is a relief if you are serious about reaching the end of game.
BOTTOM LINE: If you are looking for a challenging and retro gaming experience along with the convenience to play at any time, there is a good chance that you will like Red Runner.
