There used to be a covers band based in London a few years ago called Gabba who featured a hugely tall singer and performed Abba songs in the style of The Ramones - ie fast! I was always convinced that it would turn into a music genre that would take hold. Imagine doing all the Bob Dylan songs in the style of Bob Marley or maybe Kanye West songs in the style of Taylor Swift (can't wait for that one.) Sadly it didn't really take off but the fate of the cover version was taken up by shows like Glee, American Idol and The Voice and we all know how popular those shows have become. The Covr is a fun, social music application where you can submit, vote on and share great cover versions of songs and see what sort of musical talent is really out there but not on TV.
Shows like American Idol and The Voice are great shows for displaying the vast amount of undiscovered musical talent that is out there. The only problem is that the winners tend to be a little... well, lets call them a little predictable maybe... and there aren't many spots up for grabs each series. The fact is, there is a vast array of talent out there that never sees the light of day.
