Introducing a new crowdsourced video dictionary: Vifinition Vifinition (www.vifinition.com) is changing the way words and phrases can be defined. It is an urban video dictionary where you can define, or rather vifine just about anything with videos. It is a new and fun way to show your creativity and share it with your friends and the world. “Pretty darn awesome little thing” – Josh Lockhart, makeuseof.com Even though the beta version of the site was launched only in September, bloggers and other users have already seen a lot of potential in Vifinition. Makeuseof.com's Josh Lockhart mentioned in his review that “as a video-maker myself, I think Vifinition is a pretty darn awesome little thing. It has great potential to go beyond the novelty of being a video dictionary, and it could actually become a resource that is incredibly extensive”. “We offer our users a new way of being creative by linking words to videos that initially might have been totally unrelated to each other,” Hameed Ahmed, co-founder of Vifinition says. After something has been vifined, users rate Vifinitions and through that ensure that the dictionary keeps on getting more accurate over time – or at least more enjoyable. Vifinition is a crowdsourced website, and that is how the Vifinition team wants to keep it. “We want to stay away from moderation as much as possible,” Ahmed continues. “The whole idea around Vifinition is to let people define and shape the site.”

Potential! Vifinition Video Dictionary has heaps of it. This video sharing application takes video crowdsourcing in a slightly different direction by redefining the way we perceive words and phrases in our search mechanisms. Rather than relying solely on our tried and tested methods of the search engine, Vifinition turns the video search on its head by relying on the urban dictionary concept of finding interesting videos and adds a great element of fun to it, too. If I said the word fiasco to you - how would you define it as a piece of video art?
Vifinition introduces a new crowdsourced video dictionary that is changing the way words and phrases can be defined in your video searching. It is an urban video dictionary where you can define, or rather vifine just about anything with videos. It is a new and fun way to show your creativity and share it with your friends and the world. Video makers will find it a great marketing tool to get their visions and messages across to the big wide world and it's not inconceivable that Vifinition could well become a credible resource and video dictionary for short video films in the same way YouTube does. The big difference here, of course, is that there are a number of ways of accessing the information. With Vifinition you can access the various subcategories of films that have been put in by members and make a video that has some relevance to that word. So if I search for fiasco I might find a political film on the despotic control of some world leader on his subjects or I could find a cooking disaster. Likewise, I could search for yellow and find films that have been defined as the video maker's take on the word would be there. Interesting isn't it? Equally, if you have a video idea of your own to define a word or phrase of your own that isn't featured you can submit it and have others be inspired your work. The most popular videos will come up first.
Bloggers will find Vifinition very useful indeed in that it throws up a lot of great and fascinating videos that would not normally come up in a search. In the same way that PInterest captured the interest of the general cyber populace, Vifinition has the potential to do the same. Now, if I was in YouTube and typed in fiasco or yellow I would get all the videos presented to me that contain the words fiasco and yellow whereas Vifinition would give me all the videos that have been inspired by those words. Get it? This one could well take off.
