WeatherHop provides customizable severe weather notifications to both business and consumers. The service provides notifications via voice, SMS, email, social, and API. Alerts are customizable by weather type (tornado, thunderstorm, flood, winter) as well as the type of notification. WeatherHop only notifies you if your location is directly in the path of the storm. Other providers warn you if a storm is in your county - even if it is already past your location or poses no immediate threat. It's free to sign up and have alerts pushed to your Facebook wall or Twitter feed. Paid plans start at just $2.99/mo and provide access to set up voice, email, SMS, and API based alerts. The service is built on top of other cloud-based providers such as Twilio and SendGrid to provide a fast, reliable, and scalable solution.

There are still people out there that believe that climate change is a myth but I think the more astute of us realize that, weather-wise, things aren't quite the way they used to be where the weather is concerned. Massive storms and tornadoes and drought across large areas of America. A couple of years ago in Australia there was a slowly moving flood that was the size of Germany and Poland put together. And we won't even talk about the Katrina floods. One of the most important things that has been learnt is that there is nothing better than an early warning of impending bad weather and WeatherHop is an application that uses proven cloud-based technology to push weather information directly to you with a variety of alerts to keep your finger firmly on the weather pulse.
WeatherHop is an automated and reliable cloud-based weather app from the people that brought you the tornado tracking app Twister Tracker. It pushes notifications of severe weather in your area via voice, text, email, or social network . WeatherHop was developed and built in the aftermath of the destructive and devastating 2011 severe weather season and with it's resulting massive loss of property and life. This led to the creation of a next generation severe weather alert system. The app's goal is to provide the most accurate and timely warning notifications for a minimal cost so that disasters like Katrina may be averted in the future. One of the major problems over the last few years has been the communication of alerts to the people that are most vulnerable and, because of this, there are a number of avenues available to receive alerts. WeatherHop provides a fast, easy and flexible customization of the alerts you would like to get from a variety of sources and supports voice, text, email, social and API driven notifications. You can configure the type of alerts you want for each type of severe weather and set up social alerts to notify your friends and family about tornadoes and other severe weather events via Facebook or Twitter.
Given the erratic nature of weather patterns over the last few years I think it's fairly safe to say that the wilder and more extreme elements of weather conditions are here with us for a bit longer yet. So it is vitally important, given the amount of technology available to us these days, that we are given an early warning on severe weather and WeatherHop utilizes the latest data to inform you if things are going to get a bit hairy. You get real time notifications about severe weather in your area before it happens. So next time I get notification of severe weather on the East coast I'll be sending out a Facebook warning via WeatherHop to let them know what they are in for.
