Keep your notes, lectures and private thoughts locked away from prying eyes

A few years ago I had a friend who had been laboriously plotting a story that he hoped might be taken up as a tv series. He kept it tucked away on his mobile device and worked on it diligently for over a year. I contacted him again a couple of years later after I'd seen the pilot episode of a new series because the plot line bore a remarkable resemblance to his own. He told me that he'd seen the episode and put two and two together and worked out that, while he'd been at a writers’ workshop, he'd left his device unattended and a fellow writer had been able to access all of his notes. The ...  More

Take digital notes using editable handwritten and typed text

I think I've lost count on the amount of note-taking apps that have been made available over the last few years and many of them have proven to be very useful indeed. However, very few have the ability to edit and add to your notes and offer the flexibility and functionality as this one. DioNote is a new note-taking application that is very easy to use and gives you the ability to create handwritten as well as typed notes & text that can then be edited as well as illustrated with drawings and photos. This slick looking and classy writing and editing application slips right in your ...  More

Turn your handwritten notes into text and share them immediately

Apps these days just seem to get cooler and cooler. I was just talking to a friend the other day and I mentioned that the app world is moving at a resounding speed and, no sooner have you got used to one excellent innovation, that another comes along to overtake it. PhatPad is an iOS drawing and writing application with a difference. It turns your iPad into what they call an 'advanced brainstorming tool' and let's you handwritten or typed notes and ideas and share them instantly.   More than another note-taking app, PhatPad turns your iPad into an advanced brainstorming tool. Draw, ...  More

A note-taking app that you will actually want to use

The worst problem with keeping a note taking application on your iDevice is that they never really get used. I'm still constantly astounded by friends who, despite having perfectly fine note-taking apps on their iPhone, still pull out a pen and paper when they need to take notes, phone numbers or important details down. One can only assume that the apps they have are not user-friendly enough. So when an app like NotesBox comes along it is easy to see how it could well gazump all the others and become the industry standard.  NotesBox looks like a million dollars and let's you manage ...  More

These notes will self destruct in ten seconds...

We've all heard the classic "Mission Impossible" sound bite where, after the agents have listened to the taped message, it announces that "this tape will self destruct in five seconds." Well, NoteShred is the online equivalent of the time-sensitive message. After you have sent your private note, message or document to the recipient you can decide how long they can have access to it. It ensures that you don't have important or private information isn't just sitting in someone's email in box where it could be access by others.   You might have seen a couple of reviews that FeedMyApp ...  More

A simple notebook to keep all your stuff in

Do you remember when your dad put his suit jacket on when he went to work he would always fill the pockets with stuff before he left the house? With mine it was always his glasses, his wallet, various pens and pencils as well as a note pad which was filled to capacity with loose sheets drawings, notes and phone numbers. While it was kinda endearing, I'm pleased to say that a better solution has been found for the tatty notepad and it's contents. SketchWorthy is a great little notebook application for iOS where you can keep all the important stuff that my dad kept in his - except that here ...  More

A must-have notepad to type, draw and record with

When you are sitting in a lecture, a seminar or meeting you don't really want to be the one tapping away on your keyboard while the action takes place. Apart from anything else, it's kinda distracting and you can hire a stenographer to do that. Remember when you were in collage with that foolscap pad you used to take to lectures. It was covered in doodles and stuff but it did carry the crux of the information whether it be through diagrams or your note taking. Soundnote is the modern day foolscap pad with one big difference - not only can you type and draw but you can also record audio. ...  More

A notepad that's head and shoulders above the rest

Time to pay attention I think because this note-taking application for iPad and iOS is a little gem. NoteLedge out performs similar apps because it is packed with features and combines handwriting, sketching and typing as well as audio and video input to keep all your notes and research in one snappy and very attractive package. There is even a really good little editing tool called Navigator thrown in for good measure that gives you the ability to crop and personalize your pictures and text and paste wherever you like on the screen.   NoteLedge is a robust note-taking application ...  More
